Chester City 3-1 Burton Albion 06.03.2004

Chester overcame the shock of falling behind to seal an impressive win and maintain their five-point lead at the top of the table.

The visitors had taken the lead on seven minutes after a calamitous error by Iain Turner, who made a hash of his clearance, which allowed Robbie Talbot to lob the ball into the unguarded net.

Chester themselves had been unlucky a minute earlier as a cross by Kevin McIntyre from the left found the head of Darryn Stamp, but his measured header came back off the bar.

Chester's dominance saw McIntyre force a flying save from Matt Duke and then the midfielder cracked an effort just past the post.

The game was turned around with two goals in four minutes for the home side.

First, Daryl Clare drew Chester level after tapping home from close range, and three minutes later the recovery was complete as Scott Guyett arrived in the box to head in from Alex Smith's first-time ball.

Keeper Turner made amends for his earlier blunder by smothering an effort from Jonathan Howard after the midfielder had looked odds on to score.

Aaron Webster just cleared the crossbar with a free-kick as Burton made a bright start to the second period, and Sam McMahon also went close with a drive just past the post.

A chance to make the game safe was wasted on 68 minutes as Stamp blazed over with a volley from only five yards out, but Chester did not have to wait long as a minute later Clare picked up the ball on the edge of the box and steered the ball past Duke to seal a 3-1 win.
