Chester got off to the best possible start in front of a
noisy Deva Stadium with a goal in the second minute.
In a similar fashion to the first goal at Accrington,
Jamie Heard played a short corner to Daryl Clare on the
left hand side. Clare played it back to Heard who then
played a great cross into the six yard box where Phil
Bolland was waiting to coolly slot it home.It could
have been two a minute later, this time a Michael Twiss
header was blocked by the advancing Shots keeper.
The news got even better in the tenth minute. Scott
Guyett played the ball through to Darryn Stamp who played
a quick flick on to Daryl Clare, setting him free in
acres of space. With the goalkeeper advancing Daryl fired
the ball home from 15 yards past the stranded keeper to
make it 2-0 to the Blues.
Aldershot came close to clawing one back in the 24th
minute from a corner which was not cleared away. It
resulted in a goalmouth scramble which ended with one of
the Shots forwards shooting well wide for a goal kick.
Almost straight away at the other end Michael Twiss
hit the left hand upright before a powerful shot from
Carey forced a great save from the Shots keeper and
conceded the first of two corners, neither of which came
to anything.
Aldershot got a freak goal back in the 37th minute.
Adam Miller took a corner over on the far side which
curved straight into goal without making contact with
anyone else, including Turner who could not get a hand to
it as it sneaked in under the crossbar.
So a good first half for Chester which could have been
even better if they could have kept the momentum going
for the full 45 minutes.
Aldershot started brightly in the second half and won
a corner in the 51st minute which was cleared away from
danger.
Michael Twiss made a good run down the left in the
54th minute but despite the ball bouncing wildly from his
shot the Nikki Bull in the 'Shots goal was able to
smother it comfortably.
At the other end Ray Warburton came close with a
header just over the crossbar from a corner.
Aldershot's bright start to the half was brought to an
abrupt end in the 57th minute with another goal from Phil
Bolland. Darryn Stamp had the original crack at goal but
his shot bounced off the post straight into the path of
Bolland who knocked it home from 6 yards out.
Things got even better for city in the 66th minute
after Jamie Heard was brought down inside the penalty
area whilst making a run through with the ball. Penalty
of course. Daryl Clare stepped up to take the spot kick
and slotted it home into the right hand corner of the net
for his third penalty in three games.
The blues won another corner in the 75th minute which
was played in by Jamie Heard. It was cleared away but
only as far as Sean Carey. However he slightly mis-kicked
the shot and it sailed well to the left of he goal.
The game descended into farce a few moments later
after a clash of heads between Kevin McIntyre and Dean
Hooper. Dean Hooper collapsed with his head in his
hands and was promptly sent off for play acting, closely
followed by McIntyre, so both teams down to ten men. So
an entertaining game at the Deva this evening, and it is
Chester who take the spoils to go 6 points clear at the
top of the Conference. Deva TXT man of the match to Phil
Bolland for a brace of goals from defence.
