Chester were the brightest out of the starting blocks
when Michael Twiss made a run down the left and was
unlucky to see his shot at goal tipped on to the near
post by Bayes in the Woking goal.In the 6th minute
Darryn Stamp sent one of his trademark headers low
towards goal and it was only just cleared off the line by
Bayes.
After sustained pressure in the opening stages Chester
deservedly took the lead in the 17th minute. Once again
it was Michael Twiss who made the attacking run down the
left before playing the ball inside to Darryn Stamp.
He played it back to Ben Davies who drove it home from 20
yards out with an excellent right footed shot into the
top right hand corner of the net.
It could have been 2-0 five minutes later when
Twiss again made a run down the middle almost forcing an
own goal as a Clare shot deflected off Canham, spun
wildly in the air and came down just in front of the
crossbar forcing a lunging punch over from Bayes.
In the 33rd minute McIntyre played the ball right to
the feet of Daryl Clare giving him a quick half chance at
goal. His first touch sent the ball a few foot wide of
the right hand post.
McCaldon made an excellent save in the 35th minute
after a Davis Haule cross came across the front of his
goal.
Chester kept piling on the pressure though and in the
38th minute Clare received the ball from a McIntyre throw
in and played it into Michael Twiss who had run in from
the flank. He was unlucky to see his shot deflected over
for a corner.
Ben Davies played the corner across goal to the far
post where Bolland got his header to it but his shot was
wide right. So 1-0 at half time with Chester well on top.
Scott Guyett replaced Carl Ruffer a few minutes into
the second half as Chester came under a bit of pressure
from Woking.
In the 57th minute though it was Chester who increased
their lead after an excellent break through the final two
defenders by Daryl Clare. However he did not have a
clear shot at goal and generously played the ball back
out to Michael Twiss who fired it home from about 18
yards out on the left. A superb goal which nearly raised
the roof of the north terrace as the fans celebrated.
Daryl Clare came close in the 67th minute but with 10
yards between him and the goal mouth a last minute tackle
denied him and the ball went out for a corner.
Chester began to sit back on their lead at this point
and paid the price for it in the 75th minute. After good
work down the right hand side by Woking the ball found
Raphael Nade in the centre on the edge of the box. He
scored an excellent goal which was just inside the right
hand upright and also managed to avoid the mass of
players waiting for it in the box.
Ben Davies could have scored 6 minutes from time with
a shot from the left but Ashley Bayes just got his
fingers to it as he dived to his left.
Woking continued to push forwards but always found
Bolland or Collins thwarting their efforts so Chester
hold on for a much deserved 2-1 win.
Deva TXT man of the match by some distance goes to
Michael Twiss who was outstanding all afternoon down the
left causing major problems to the Woking defence.
