The Blues picked up another valuable three points in
Surrey this evening as the nation watched live on Sky.
Once again though we just had to do it the hard way but
boy was it worth the wait!Chester got off to the worst possible start conceding a
goal in the first minute of play. Scott Canham made a run
down the left hand side for Woking and comfortably beat
Phil Bolland. He passed the ball through to Steve
Ferguson who slotted it home from close range into the
bottom left hand corner of the net.
Danny Williams had
a shot at goal for Chester in the eighth minute after
some good work down the left by Daryl Clare but his shot
was well wide of the left hand post.
In the 9th minute Smith played a great ball through to
Darryn Stamp who was making a run through midfield.
With the goalkeeper advancing he went for the lob but
missed the target and the ball went out for a goal kick.
In the 13th minute Kevin McIntyre played a fantastic
cross to the far post forcing Chris Giles to concede a
corner. Unfortunately Woking were first to the ball and
it was cleared upfield without danger.
Alex Smith won a corner in the 18th minute after a
good ball from Carden. Again though it was played to the
back of the box and cleared away by the alert Woking
defence.
Chester kept up the sustained pressure throughout this
period but found themselves up against a well organised
Woking side who looked more determined to keep the Blues
at bay than make any attacking runs themselves.
McIntyre again was the instigator of a good Chester
chance in the 31st with another good ball into the Woking
goal area but was beaten this time by the goalkeeper
punching the ball away. Chris Giles had a rare shot at
goal for Woking in the 39th minute from the right hand
channel but his acute shot went sailing high over the
crossbar. In the 41st minute Danny Williams won a loose
ball in the centre of the field and made a run with it
down the right hand channel. He played a cross into
Darryn Stamp who was advancing into the goal area but
Stamp's shot went high over the crossbar, but a great
chance from nothing. Chris Giles conceded another
corner to Chester in the 44th minute. Scott Guyett
got on the end of the corner but his first touch kick
went wide right of the goal. So almost total dominance
by the Blues in the first half but they go in a goal down
and with it all to do in the second half. In the 49th
minute Chester had another great chance when Smith played
a good ball through to Daryl Clare on the left hand side
of the box. It went just wide of the left hand post but
the Blues continued to show their intentions. Steve
Ferguson made a good run for Woking in the 53rd but after
jinking his way through midfield his shot was wide of the
left hand post with Turner in attendance. The game
entered a quiet midfield scrap at this point with Chester
still with the upper hand on possession. Michael Twiss
came on for Alex Smith in the 68th minute to try and turn
things around. In the 70th minute Chester won a corner
and McIntyre played it into the box at the near side.
Michael Twiss got a header on the end of the cross but
could not direct it into the net and it went marginally
over for a goal kick. Twiss earned another corner for
Chester in the 74th minute but it was cleared away twice
by the Woking defence before ending back up in midfield.
As the game continued it's monotonous phase Chsester got
the equaliser from a corner. Kevin McIntyre took the
corner and played it to the far post where Danny Collins
rose above the crowd to header it accurately into the top
corner of the net for a much deserved equaliser. Its
getting toward the end. Twissy gets the ball almost
on the half way line. LOB! It's in Isaac Newtons hands
now. GOOOALLL! Chester 2-1 up and you will not see a
better goal than that. Michael Twiss puts Chester in the
lead with a superb solo effort and the Mill Hotel goes
wild. Woking nearly equalised in the 90th minute but
sighs of relief all round. Iain Turner made a terrific
save at the end of a goalmouth scramble. Fantastic. We
deserved that. We got it. Much credit to Michael Twiss
for THAT GOAL but Deva TXT man of the match award goes to
Kevin McIntyre for his hard work throughtout the game.
ARE YOU A BELIEVER YET? THIS IS OUR SEASON. Good
evening from the Mill Hotel, Chester CH1.
